Alarms

If a burglar is targeting your home, the last thing he wants is attention drawn to him. The most basic alarms simply make a lot of noise whenever they are triggered. This usually results in the intruder leaving quickly as hanging around a house with a blaring alarm is  hardly inconspicuous and neighbors are likely to call the police.

Alarms can be triggered by several means; most involving a complete electrical circuit that somehow include part of your door or window (this can be done via magnets, contacts or a simple physical switch the door holds closed). When the door or window is opened or broken, the circuit is no longer complete and the alarm is then triggered. The relative simplicity of this kind of system means that it' s possible to put in a system like this yourself.

More complete alarms have the capability to call the company that installed them - they will then call the police, and they may send a security guard as well. Usually this type of service comes with a complete home security package and generally requires a long term contract and a monthly fee.
